Chemistry on monolayer metallic films

چکیده

The chemical behavior of monolayer coverages of one metal on the surface of another, e.g., Ni/W, Fe/W, Pd/W, Cu/Re, Ni/Mo, etc., has recently been shown to be dramatically different from that seen for either of the metallic components separately. These chemical alterations, which modify the chemisorption and catalytic properties of the overlayers, have, in certain cases, been correlated with changes in the structural and electronic properties of the bimetallic system. Representativ e studies are reviewed and discussed as to their relevance to the special properties observed for certain bimetallic catalysts.

Directing Anisotropic Assembly of Metallic Nanoclusters by Exploiting Linear Trio Interactions and Quantum Size Effects: Au Chains on Ag(100) Thin Films.

Discovery and understanding of mechanisms for kinetically controlled growth of metal nanoclusters can be enabled by realistic atomistic-level modeling with ab initio kinetics. KMC simulation of such a model for Au deposition on Ag(100) films reveals the formation of single-atom-wide Au chains below 275 K, even though 2D islands are thermodynamically preferred. Chain formation is shown to reflec...

Behenic Acid Monolayer and Bilayer Assemblies- A Study of Concanavalin A (Con A) Adsorption and its Interaction with Dextran Using Surface Plasmon Resonance Spectroscopy and Microscopy

Deposition of behenic acid (B.A) mono and bilayers onto gold coated surfaces was performed by Langmuir-Blodget dip-casting technique. Surface Plasmon resonance (SPR) and ellipsometry methods were employed for investigation of the monolayer and bilayer films. The adsorption of the biologically important molecule Concanavalin A (Con A) from bulk solution to these monolayers and bilayers as we...

Electrodeposition of a Pt monolayer film: using kinetic limitations for atomic layer epitaxy.

A new and facile one-step method to prepare a smooth Pt monolayer film on a metallic substrate in the absence of underpotential deposition-type stabilizations is presented as a general approach and applied to the growth of Pt monolayer films on Au. The strongly modified electronic properties of these films were demonstrated by in situ IR spectroscopy at the electrified solid-liquid interface wi...

A technique to functionalize and self-assemble macroscopic nanoparticle-ligand monolayer films onto template-free substrates.

This protocol describes a self-assembly technique to create macroscopic monolayer films composed of ligand-coated nanoparticles. The simple, robust and scalable technique efficiently functionalizes metallic nanoparticles with thiol-ligands in a miscible water/organic solvent mixture allowing for rapid grafting of thiol groups onto the gold nanoparticle surface. The hydrophobic ligands on the na...

Electronic stability and electron transport properties of atomic wires anchored on the MoS2 monolayer.

The stability, electronic structure, and electron transport properties of metallic monoatomic wires anchored on the MoS2 monolayer are investigated within the density functional theory. The anchoring of the atomic wires on the semiconducting monolayer significantly modifies its electronic properties; the metallic characteristics of the assembled monolayers appear in the density of states and ba...
